LG and Samsung unveils LED Smart Bulbs with Bluetooth connectivity

LED bulbs with Bluetooth connectivity…it’s unbelievable but LG and Samsung makes it possible and launched the smart LED bulbs with Bluetooth technology. So, users can connect their smartphone and tablet with bulb and control brightness.

Smart phone…Smart TV…Smart Car…and now Smart Bulbs. You may not believe it, but it’s made possible by Korean companies, LG and Samsung. Recently, they have unveiled LED smart bulbs with Bluetooth connectivity to compete together. That means now you can connect your Smartphone and Tablet with light lamp too and control the brightness of it. Compared to incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, LED bulbs are considered durable and more power efficient. Both can easily fit in traditional light sockets for ease of use and greater compatibility. The initial cost of the bulb is very high, but price doesn’t matter with its features like longer life, energy efficiency, ecologically friendly, durable quality and design flexibility, operational in extremely cold or hot temperatures, light dispersement, low voltage, and Bluetooth connectivity. Here, we have explained LG and Samsung smart bulbs in details, so check it out.

LG Smart bulb:

Recently, LG has launched its first smart light-bulb, which is supported with both Android 4.3 and iOS 6.0 or higher. LG’s smart light-bulb is similar to Philips Hue smart bulbs, which are controllable by iPhone. It’s a 10W LED Lamp that provides a familiar level of control to Android and iOS users over their lighting, including a light-based alarm clock and a security mode that imagines you’re at home.

It is supported with both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology, so users can connect it with smart phones, tablets and other “smart” devices. By installing a purpose built app on device, home owners can control their smart lamp with a few taps and finger swipes on a mobile phone.

LG Smart Bulb will flash when users get a phone call or pulse to the beat of the music. It will save 80% energy than other bulbs and will last for over a decade if on for five hours a day. One of the best things about LG’s smart bulbs is its security mode that will secure user’s home when they are out of home via timer setting from the Smartphone to provide the sense the home is occupied.

Users are also able to set timers and vividness of the bulbs to make sure that morning light is easier on the eyes, which “may feel good at daybreak”. The alarm clock function works automatically after one time setting. It will turn on lamp during morning and turn off right before bedtime. Using party mode, you can set the brightness to the music emanating from the Smartphone and after that light will blink in different color on music beat. This feature is only supported with Android based smartphones.

However, LG Smart Lamp is more costly than ordinary LEDS, at 35,000 won ($32) in LG’s native Korea.

Samsung Smart bulb:

Korea-based company, Samsung has unveiled its smart bulb merely day after LG launched to give tough competition. It is called “smartbulb” that will be launched in next week at the Light + Building architectural conference in Frankfurt, Germany. It is different from other LED lights, because it comes with Bluetooth technology in order to connect smartphone and tablets. It will be available in range of different styles including tubes, spotlights, bulbs, etc. Moreover, it can easily fit into traditional light sockets and controllable via companion app.

For brightness controls, it is featured with adjustable color temperatures; hence users will be able to adjust color temperature of the bulbs with output ranging from 2700K on the warm side up to 6500K to better simulate daylight. Users can dim down the Smart Bulb to 10% brightness. It will run up to 15000 hours or approximately 10 years. For the most part, Samsung smart bulbs are not different from other smart lights available in the market. However, Wi-Fi connectivity is missing in Samsung smart bulbs.

Users don’t need to install hub or access points, because they can control 64 bulbs at the same time from single device and application. Samsung is also planning to launch smart bulb with built in ZigBee radio that would make it possible for better integration with home automation system.

Samsung’s Smart Bulb has been best-known for its design qualities that has received a Design Plus award and IF design award. Samsung’s PAR-series has lightweight structure and provides quality lighting with a high CRI of over 90. It is perfectly suited for color-critical applications and interior designs. Due to its unique modern design, Samsung’s PAR-series bulbs combine both spotlight and fixtures. Its Swivel Head provides customers the flexibility to set the unit without the need of extra equipments.

Samsung L-tube series is compatible with conventional ballast. The installation cost of L-tube series is very low because of its ECG/CCG compatibility and it is best suitable for internal areas.

Pricing and availability of the Samsung smart bulb are not announced yet, but it is expected to be available at the price of around $32-$35. In near future, the company will launch several other innovative wireless smart bulbs to gain popularity.
