Immense benefits of LEDs have spurred people to switch from traditional lighting to energy-efficient LED lighting products. But the problem is, a large number of manufacturers are tapping into this potentially lucrative market and not all of them provide quality products. So, to help people choose quality energy-efficient products, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has come up with standards for LED Lights. Based on these standards, LED lights will get affixed with BEE Energy Star Rating labels, so that purchasers can compare the energy efficiency of different models.

Lots of projects has been initiated by government, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and NGOs to promote energy efficient LED Lights. BEE nationwide LED village campaign has replaced the existing incandescent bulbs with LEDs in many villages and converted them into a LED village. A total of 27 villages will get benefited from LED village campaign. The latest village that completely illuminated with LED lights is Amrapura. Amrapura LED village project is implemented by Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and jointly funded by BEE.
Amrapura village of Mansa taluka is the first LED Village of Gujarat. The modern village of developing India has become a model for other villages. Now in Amrapura, you can find LED lights everywhere: 285 households, 9 community places and Street. 1000 LED Bulbs (9W), 350 LED Tubelights (14W) and 55 LED Street Lights (18W) are used in the project.
Each home owner has given 2 LED Lamps and 1 LED Tubelight to reduce electric expense per home.

In India, many people are still unaware about the energy-efficient LED lights. So to make them aware about the benefits of the LED lights and to spread the message of energy conservation in the country, Prime Minister of India: Mr. Narendra Modi launched a new scheme for LED bulb distribution. Under Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) in Delhi and a National Programme for LED-based Home & Street Lighting scheme, LED bulbs will be distributed for Rs. 10 to all domestic consumers who register for DELP online or offline.
The aim of this initiative is to reduce energy consumption in the country & save the environment. Initially, the scheme will be available in Delhi, starting from March 2015. India to shine bright with LED lights! The government has decided to swap all streetlights across the country to more energy-efficient and eco-friendly LED lights.
The Government of India has taken an initiative towards creating a brighter and greener future with LED lights. The Union ministry of urban development has ordered the state governments throughout the country to replace all the street lights with LED fixtures, which gives better illumination with less energy consumption. In India, there are about 27.5 million streetlights and converting all of these to LED would indeed save a massive amount of electricity. In fact, with this initiative the country is expected to slash more than 5000 MW of electricity consumption over a period of 3 years!
The decision to bring this initiative came following the release of a survey conducted by Bureau of Energy efficiency (BEE) on the street lights of India. According to this survey, over 80 percent of street lights in the country were installed in a dangerous manner without taking into consideration the pole distance, type & height of luminaire, and other important factors. In just 4 years, government has found a solution to provide these energy efficient LED lamps at very low cost, which is really admirable step.
